Problematic connection to WLAN

I bought this phone for my elderly mother. She has two hearing aids and it got to the point where I stopped calling her because she couldn't hear anything. A simple phone is very good. Was surprised to learn that the subtitles were actually made by a human. Shows I didn't do any research. Subtitle response is a little slow, but once you get used to it, it's very comfortable and the phone promises to be a real game changer. The phone is connected to the internet via Wi-Fi, but phone calls are made via a phone cord to a cable modem. I'm worried about the Wi-Fi connection. The last time my parents tried to use the phone, I got a message like "Subtitles are disabled, press the subtitles button to restart". The signature button was not responding. I couldn't understand what was going on with the management, the so-called support service. Our router may be 25-30 feet away from this phone. Support reported that the WiFi range for this phone is outside the recommended range. They recommend connecting to an Ethernet network (they don't have a wired Ethernet network in their house). She suggested restarting the phone. I did that and then went through about five screens that you have to go through every time the phone turns on and indeed the subtitles are back. While this won't happen often, we'll keep the phone. Otherwise I'll send it back. I would advise against buying this device unless it will be connected to an Ethernet network.
