This is basically a digital camera sensor with a ring of light around it to illuminate the object being viewed. This works fine, but not quite for all my purposes. I got it for circuit work and for general inspection it works fine but it's not as sharp as an optical zoom device. For example, when I try to turn the board on its side to see the suffering of 32 pads in an LGA32 package, it's too hard to see in that area. Too much shine and blur in the picture. Again this is a good sight to see a lot of things up close, there is even enough room underneath to see and solder the legs of various cases. So overall it's fine, and while the screen is clear, looking at certain things and/or more reflective elements blurs the image a bit.
