Review on NEWTRY Handheld Digital Electrostatic Field Meter & Ion Balance Tester: Measures 0~20KV & 0~200V for Fiber Yarn, Fabric, Carpet, Board, Paper, Rubber by Anthony Hicks

An electrostatic field meter is well suited for electrostatic charges.

I was happy to see that this is indeed a Simco FMX-003 unit, calibrated in Japan and CofC is included in the order. This field meter outputs a voltage just 1 inch from your device to the sample. Voltage between materials can be read from a distance, but I need to know the distance (in inches) and multiply that distance by the reading on the meter to get volts per inch. This field meter can measure the voltage of objects (e.g. styrofoam) over a foot away. This device, unlike the GQ EMF-390, captures electrostatic charges. If you want to measure the total charge on an object (in coulombs or electrons) you need a Faraday bucket and something like a vernier charge meter.

Pros
  • Tester
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for the elderly
