with metal chairs, it is cut through the bottom of them. it's just plain white rubber, vulnerable to sharp objects like a metal chair leg on which a tall American sits. A quick fix is to stick a nickel in the underside of the tip before putting on the chair leg. The nickel is too big to fit in the chair leg and is sufficient. Even if you make additional changes, this is a better deal than others. which also do not work with metal chair legs for the same reason
