Review on Nalgene Bottle Carrier Insulated: Keep Your 32 Oz Bottles Cold in Gray by Andrew Lyons

Preventing Water from Freezing at Mount Washington, New Hampshire!

Very simple design that stands up to winter conditions. I attached the stretcher to the hip belt of the backpack. There is a sufficiently long strap for you to thread the waist belt through. There is also a small loop that I attached a carabiner to and attached to my backpack. I did three hikes in temperatures below 20 degrees. One day it got much colder because of the cold wind. My water is not frozen. My travel companion left her Nalgene outside and the water was partially frozen so she couldn't drink. When you put the Nalgene bottle in, you need to align the cap so that the carrier cap can close properly, otherwise it will be a bit difficult to attach. But there's a nice big switch on the zipper that makes it easier to grab with gloves on. The real test comes when I climb Mount Washington (January 14, 2018). I will have an update after ascension. Our guides had us pour hot water on our Nalgenes to get started. I know hot water isn't recommended for Nalgene, but I figured it wouldn't hurt tonight. The weather was 13 degrees, sunny, windless. Our guides never had a day without wind so we were definitely spoiled. I had two Nalgenes with me. I used a neoprene sleeve on one and drank from it first. The isolated medium remained at the bottom of the bag where it was recommended to be placed. They also recommended hiding it upside down to keep the water around the mouthpiece from freezing. After 5.5 hours of climbing I decided to turn back at Lion's Head. We chose the summer route which took 4.5 hours. When we got to the bottom, I pulled out the isothermal bottle. The water was warm! Wonderful. My guide was also amazed and said he needed something like this because his water often freezes. As a thank you for helping me get down the mountain safely, I gave him this. I'll order another one right away. There are no photos to share. Only memories!
