Review on 🗺️ Garmin nüvi 56 GPS Navigators System: Spoken Turn-By-Turn Directions, Preloaded USA and Canada Maps, Speed Limit Displays by Paul Dahl

A good device, there are a few points that I personally do not like.

Bought before a long trip. I've done this trip before so I knew where I was going but always seemed to get off course on short detours along the way so I figured a Garmin would be nice. My sister has an older one and she let me use it a few times and I liked it. I've found that the new device doesn't always guide me on the most efficient routes since it knows where I'm going. I often ignored his instructions and took a more efficient route on my own. My older sisters would say "reconfigure" in such a situation. This one doesn't and I missed it about it. For example, I was walking up and down a distance rather than a straight line to my destination. I knew it was an inefficient way and planned to go my own way. I stopped for a coffee, the device turned off and when I came back it was reconfigured to a more efficient route! Also, there is no favorites icon, which makes life easier on busy routes, unlike my sisters. an older one with this function. I definitely miss it. Split screen for upcoming junctions is nice. FYI, IT ONLY SHOWS when you approach a difficult intersection, it doesn't show the lanes all the time. While it has the ability to move the display with your finger like a smartphone, it's clearly not designed for this type of work. Wise and not very sensitive to finger pulling. Use the arrows on the side, it's much easier. Despite the lack of drag sensitivity, all keys are sensitive. WHY BUY A GPS DEVICE when there is an app on your smartphone? * GPS has a more beautiful and clearer display. * It can be installed on the window or dashboard, not just thrown in the cup holder. * If you are using a limited data plan on your smartphone, it will not take up your time. * You can use your smartphone with the GPS device at the same time or for multiple searches. UPDATE: 3 years old and picking up speed. I update it regularly via my home computer.* Another plus of using this GPS device compared to using your smartphone, you can see the screen much easier. This device directed me to addresses in the Appalachian Mountains and knew exactly where it was. the place I would go to (essentially telling me where the hidden driveway was). On another occasion, also in Appalachia, he knew EXACTLY where the address was, but it was nothing but a forest (I was given the wrong address), but Garmin knew where that address would have to be if there really was a house there . !If I had to buy this again I would spend extra money for lifetime traffic updates. It has free lifetime map updates. When I bought this I didn't really understand what lifetime traffic was. I might end up buying another one to get lifetime traffic.

Pros
  • Impressive
Cons
  • Poor instructions
