Frustrated with your GPS device? You're not alone!

Warning! The maps are frustratingly outdated - even after the update. The updates have actually moved the super destination I shop a mile from where it was on the previous map. And I've been able to turn left off 22nd Street at COSTCO in Oak Brook for years, but my tom tom and Garmin still haven't heard the news. When Garmin suggests you save time in Chicago by choosing lanes over freeways, add 5 minutes of driving time per mile. In most cases you will find that you could save time by staying…

Beware of old maps suitable for car GPS

This is not the latest model (Revain lists 58LMT as a newer version) so it is not surprising that the installed maps are out November 2013 - at the time of writing, he was only three years old. Luckily maps can be updated and I haven't had any problems with that. However, the internal storage of the GPS is now severely used up, which may result in future updates not working unless some unnecessary items are removed (e.g. help files and voices in other languages). And even this trick might not…

  • Trial version for one year

Much better than a smartphone

Our son went into the army so we traveled a lot, attended graduations, generally rescued him from base etc. We used our phones to navigate. What a pain in the neck. So I finally broke down and bought a GPS. I'm glad I did. I chose six inches. Five inch screens are pretty small while seven inch screens are huge. Six inches is easy to see but doesn't take up too much space. 66 is easy to use. Plug it in, walk past the lawyer screen, press the button and type in the address you want to go to too…

  • Worth the money

Does what I wanted in a car GPS

I've had it for a few weeks, drove about 1500 miles and been to 3 states. So far I am very happy with this GPS. On the other hand, the included instruction manual is pretty much useless. You really need to go to the Garmin website and download the manual. It's pretty good, but I still had to figure out a few things through trial and error. It doesn't explain how well turning on and off works, for example. But it turns out that when it's powered from an outlet that turns off with the ignition…

Be careful you might get a lemon.

Let me start by saying that I have been using Garmin devices for over 10 years. I chose this model to upgrade the rear camera which I will buy later. I set it up and everything went fine. I travel to Chicago for work 5 days a week and rely on the traffic function to get around. As I sit on the I 90 and drive into town, I check the GPS and notice that I'm not getting traffic alerts like I did on my old GPS. Back home I called Garmin Tech Support to see if I missed a setting or something. After…

A good device, there are a few points that I personally do not like.

Bought before a long trip. I've done this trip before so I knew where I was going but always seemed to get off course on short detours along the way so I figured a Garmin would be nice. My sister has an older one and she let me use it a few times and I liked it. I've found that the new device doesn't always guide me on the most efficient routes since it knows where I'm going. I often ignored his instructions and took a more efficient route on my own. My older sisters would say "reconfigure" in…
