The most attractive feature of this knife set is that it is made of carbon steel PLUS stainless steel. This gives the metal the advantage of staying sharp longer while looking good. This set is really pretty and glittery, but its beauty can be deceiving. The balance on each knife is perfect. The included fairly large cleaver is also well balanced and looks great. In fact, this is the first cleaver I've used that many times. Very good. In fact, the whole set looks great and works as expected. Whether it's chopping or slicing vegetables, mincing a few cloves of garlic, or butchering a chicken or other meat product, all blades do their job well and will hold their edge for some time. now and again. Using the included steel will only elongate the edges of your blades, as will using blade guards. The case in which to store them is clearly sturdy and quite comfortable - considering the size of the set it contains. I've figured out which parts I use the most and keep them in a cupboard drawer in front of my desk, each with a blade guard. The case is ideal for transport or long-term storage, for example when moving house. But you will find that you will use these knives every day. Literally! It's nice, but not essential. With the exception of the large chef's knife, which was significantly less sharp than other blades and required more attention when sharpening to get the razor-sharp edge I'm used to, all the blades were very well sharpened. However, I still worked a little on each knife on the whetstone to get a thin, razor-sharp edge. It wasn't necessary, but since I'd just bought them and was preparing for my first good bath, I decided to sand them down a bit. My only concern is that the Ross Henery logo is small. ' washed off the blades I use the most. Strange. Very strange. This gave me the idea that these knives could be fakes and not real ones. I think a maker of a knife this good wants their name to stay with their product for the life of their product. The disappearing brand name is the ONLY reason I gave the set 4 STARS. The blades work and they work well. Fingers crossed for durability which shouldn't be a problem unless they're real of course - and only god knows what that might lead to!
