Review on ๐Ÿ”ง Performance Tool W1600 1-1/2 Ton Scissor Jack: 3,000lb Capacity, 4" - 15" Lift Range by Loren Jacobson

Great jack for $10. Use it correctly and it will not hesitate

Purchased with my full size replacement for my 2014 Jeep Cherokee. Priced <$10 as a Revain warehouse store, it was a steal in unused condition with all parts, papers, original packaging and shrink wrap someone returned to Kohl's (the return label wasn't on the box). I've considered buying a jack for my storage kit, but a simple spiral scissor jack requires much less maintenance (no need for hydraulic fluid), jacks are larger (my Jeep needs 15 inches), is lighter, and takes up less space. Performance Tool is a good brand I've used on Zerks and a Honrotor before and this jack feels solid with a wide base and by far the nicest scissor jack I've used. The only complaint is that it doesn't have a weld-in adapter for extra stability like the Harbor Freight scissor jack, but if you know how to use a scissor jack it doesn't matter. As a side note, I had grease on the screw and some slag and paint from production. I cleaned the screw and it runs much smoother with no snags. You must ensure that the screw is lubricated or oiled before loading it to prevent thread fraying and failure at the worst possible moment. Haven't used it to jack up my jeep yet but I have no doubt it will work properly as I have used many scissor jacks to change tires and have the common sense to check my equipment and maintain before use ( Remove slag and paint and re-oil screw). I really hope I don't have a catastrophic failure like some reviews of this scissor jack and others like the Big Red Torin and Harbor Freight scissor jacks. As long as you use your hardware and maintain it properly, it will almost always work as expected. You don't want the weight of your vehicle on it for long periods of time, and using it for emergencies means you need to change a tire quickly and intelligently. It's always easy to mistake your gear when you abuse it, but it takes a specialty tool to abuse a simple and effective tool like this scissor jack.

Pros
  • Scissor jack
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.
