This microscope has a very serious design flaw when viewing objects illuminated from above. The trapped light falling on the subject from above is nowhere near bright enough to produce an image on the screen. You will only see a dark screen until you use a flashlight or other additional light source and shine it on the object you want to see. How stupid is it to turn on a light source that isn't bright enough to illuminate any observable object? If you have ever used a quality microscope you will immediately understand that this is a cheap instrument. The focuser has such a play that you have to refocus a little, because if you take your hand off the focus wheel, it gets a little blurry every time. After a while you might get the hang of it, but it's just another sign of a cheap tool. It is much better to buy a quality used optical microscope at auction than to use this one. Celestron used to be a manufacturer of quality telescopes but has now evolved into yet another low quality optical instrument company using the name of a former quality manufacturer. I immediately sent my microscope back for a refund. It is a shame that Celestron made such a poor quality instrument and I will not be buying any other product from them in the future.
