Review on Samsung U32D970Q Professional Monitor - 3840x2160p, 55Hz, UHD by Luke Hohd

Revainrating 5 out of 5

but it is better than my Samsung SA950 (27 " TN 120Hz)

This review refers to gaming (single player) and office use. In terms of image quality and viewing angles other than resolution, I couldn't tell how it differed from my old Dell 3014 (30" IPS), but it outperforms my Samsung SA950 (27" TN 120Hz). It's also definitely better than most regular LCDs that come with most PCs and laptops. It looks like most of my new games can run in 4K. I had one that kept crashing on startup but was fixed with a driver update. For some games I didn't see any significant visual improvements when running at 4k. In these cases, I simply reduced the resolution to 2560x1440 using AA. Response time seems normal. It is more problematic to maintain at least 30 frames per second in graphics-intensive games with all settings at maximum. This affects my gaming experience more than the response time. If you go from 2560 x 1440 to 3840 x 2160, the frame rate drops by 50% or more. My GTX 980 running at 1500MHz struggles to maintain a minimum of 30fps in Crysis 3, Tomb Raider and Metro Redux with anti-aliasing disabled. Text in Windows 8.1, MS Office and IE looks fine when scaled from 125% to 150%, but some applications have problems. problems. A higher resolution is especially useful in spreadsheets because it allows more cells to be displayed. The build quality of the monitor and the adjustable stand are excellent. The monitor controls are real buttons, not touch buttons (which I don't like). Unlike other monitors, you have to turn on the power button next to the power cord AND the power button to turn it on. The additional power button may lead some people to believe that the monitor is not working if they are not aware of it.
