This is a pretty good picture, nice, bright and clear. I have it for a temporary trip monitor, a "burner". For connections, you get old-school VGA or HDMI—no DVI, no DisplayPort/mini DP. VGA cable is included, but HDMI is NOT included; It's okay if you plan ahead. If you're using VGA, they include some sort of audio cable, although I haven't tried it. If you're using HDMI, I can confirm that the sound comes through the monitor (assuming your laptop supports it; I'm using an older Macbook Retina). Point far behind the monitor. Since I'm using it as a monitor, I don't mind, but just a warning. To watch a movie, plan on other speakers or headphones; TV news could be passed on. The monitor's locking mechanism at the base allows it to swivel up and down, that's all. For left and right you can move the base. And there's no portrait mode rotation on this budget model. I could suggest one of the Dell monitors if that's what you want. While the mount and base are "plastic," it's actually not that bad in the short term; You can quickly snap and remove the base. Not sure if there are VESA mount options, I haven't actually checked. The packaging looks decent; I will use the original packaging to send it home. Monitors that ship frequently can eventually break, which is why I prefer to buy the cheaper ones. In this regard, he is no worse than others.
