Our electrician found the installation easy and decided to wire directly to our 50A junction box to avoid using a NEMA 14-50 plug with a GFC switch ($150 extra) to avoid. We also asked him to install a NEMA 6-20R outlet on our house generator power box so that we could charge it with the optional 20 amp BMW charging cable in the event of a power outage. The section of rigid wiring in a drywall was sealed with a foam coating covered with a rubber coating. Not pretty, but completely sealed and waterproof. Our electrician charged $290 for the job. The charger is $699, which works out to about $1,000 to get excellent redundant L2 charging through our alternator board and an extra outlet and cable. We get 7.3 kW of power for the battery with a 40 amp circuit selection in the app. That is the maximum that fits in our BMW i3. A full charge takes about 5 hours when the battery is dead, and it usually takes about 2-3 hours to charge under normal use.
