App works best in Tools & Equipment

Purchased for Jaguar IPace All-Electric Car. It texts you when the car is charged and I program it from my iPhone to start charging at 10pm when local electricity rates go down. A month has passed, a very long line of 24 feet is good. The app tells me how much I'm spending on electricity, about $30 per thousand miles I drive.

Pros
  • Quality Construction
Cons
  • Great Price

Super handy charger with thoughtful design

This is one of the best chargers on the market today! I'm a professional electric vehicle charger installer (our company, Willow Glen Electric, has installed about 4,000 chargers in the Bay Area alone!), and the Flex has many of the features I've been waiting for in a charger. I love that the power output can be adjusted during installation to best fit the home's electrical system. This is a very attractive charger. I also use this charger at home and it works great with my Model 3.

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Ugly packaging

Questionable Electrical Specs Here

This charger currently lists "charging up to 50 amps" with a NEMA 6-50 or 14-50 plug. Please refer to NEC sizing guidelines. Sec. 210-22(c), 220-3(a), 220-10(b) and 384-16(c) You must not draw a continuous load in excess of 80% of the circuit breaker rating. Therefore, a NEMA 6-50 or 14-50 plug (which must have a 50A breaker) cannot be loaded with more than 40A (9.6kW). All this marketing for a 50 amp charger and an 11kW+ charger is either grossly misinformed or downright disingenuous. Please…

Needs an app that doesn't work well

I just installed this for quite a bit of money and now the app won't connect to start charging. You have to control the charger with an app - there is no other way. The error I'm getting (Could not start session) doesn't appear anywhere in the help material. I called 24/7 support and got the answer "in 48 hours". The man on the phone, while helpful, was not a good listener. For example asking if the light was still green when it was never green and saying that we should try a factory reset…

ChargePoint Home Flex with App works right out of the box!

Our electrician found the installation easy and decided to wire directly to our 50A junction box to avoid using a NEMA 14-50 plug with a GFC switch ($150 extra) to avoid. We also asked him to install a NEMA 6-20R outlet on our house generator power box so that we could charge it with the optional 20 amp BMW charging cable in the event of a power outage. The section of rigid wiring in a drywall was sealed with a foam coating covered with a rubber coating. Not pretty, but completely sealed and…

Great adjustable charging station

This is a great adjustable charging station. To address some of the other negative comments straight away, this unit supports charging outputs up to 50 amps, but is only hardwired with 4 AWG wire. With the supplied plug, the output current is limited to 40 amps. It is easy to unplug and connect the device to an electrician. Restrictions: A smartphone is required and the app can only connect to 1 home charger per ChargePoint app/account. Requires good WiFi coverage at installation site…

Good home charger not cheap

I have a 2018 Nissan Leaf which I have mostly charged at public electric vehicle charging stations. I used my home charger that came with the Leaf but only on a 110 outlet. On a 110 outlet I charged at 1.5kW which is 6mph. This is good for overnight charging, but not great if you need a faster charger during the day. I asked an electrician to add a 240 Nema 14-50 outlet to my garage, wired to a 50 amp circuit breaker in my electrical box. I was about to order a 32Amp ChargePoint model when I…

I like this charger very much. 24/7 technical support. Very good design. Built like a tank. Small and nice looking unit. You can install it with a mains plug or with hardwiring. Fairly easy software installation. Potential Improvements: Comes with 3/4" knockouts (i.e. holes where the power line enters). If you are using conduit for the Romex 6 AWG power line, it needs to be 1 inch, so it's a connection issue. It There must be an adjustable cutout (3/4" or 1") on the left, right, or top side…

You don't need an electrical engineering degree to install this, especially if you're just mounting it to a wall and plugging into a 240v outlet . After seeing some other examples of a wired installation, I decided to go with it. First of all I would like to thank Donna for this wonderful review and her/his installation guide. This review is what prompted me to go the wire route and served as a great basis for figuring out what additional hardware would be required. I won't comment on the…
