Review on Nikon AF-P DX NIKKOR 10-20mm f/4.5-5.6G πŸ“Έ VR Lens: Perfect Wide-Angle Zoom for Stunning Shots by Jennifer Middleton

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good lens for its money.

This review is written from the point of view of a photographer. We are very picky, 5 stars would be very hard to come by. First let me say that for the price it is absolutely worth it! This is a good lens to take fantastic shots with. However, it is limited in design. The next Nikkor lens capable of taking ultra-wide-angle photos costs $900. So I think Nikon has done a great job of making this lens more affordable for more people. So let's proceed with the review. First let me warn you that this lens is small, very small and very light. Actually, it's less than my prime numbers. The first impression is holy cow, the thing is elegant. On the other hand, it's a pleasure to carry around such a small lens. Second, there is no rubber gasket and the mount is plastic. It's like a cheap kit lens in that regard. NO external switches. All of these (AF and VR) can be disabled on your camera. Please note that this new series of AF-P lenses will only work with newer cameras, some older cameras may have a firmware update (free download from Nikon website) to work with them. Be sure to check if your camera is compatible with it. The zoom ring is large and feels comfortable. The focus ring rotates smoothly, but is too thin in my opinion. The focus is electronic, so turning the ring doesn't mechanically focus the lens (this is very important if you think you're going to use it manually with an old, incompatible camera body, but you won't). excellent low light performance. In that respect, too, it's like a whale lens. For most people, this is not a crucial factor. Distortion is manageable, but isn't the main purpose of an ultra-wide lens to figure out how to get interesting shots by using distortion to your advantage? And then there are boring landscapes. I haven't talked about image quality at all, it can be a difficult long discussion that just doesn't fit here. I will say that the image quality is good, better than most other third party lenses. It's very sharp, only suffers a bit at the widest point. Vignetting is perhaps the biggest issue with image quality. It's not bad, but at 10mm it's definitely noticeable when the subject isn't very bright. Finally. If you've always wanted an ultra wide-angle lens but $900 is too much for you, this is the lens to consider. If you need low light capability, use this lens in harsh environments, have an incompatible camera, are a pro or just make money, ditch this lens. But I will keep it and enjoy it the way it is. One day I might find this 10-24mm at a flea market for $100, but until then this lens will do just fine.
