Review on 🍳 Premium Lodge Combo Cooker Cast Iron, 10.25" Black: Superior Durability and Versatility by Owen Phi

Revainrating 5 out of 5

As with most new inexpensive cast iron, the cooktop is VERY rough.

Was an impulse purchase for a car trip. I knew the place I would be hiking wouldn't have a "barbecue" so I knew I had to cook right on the coals. Cast iron is included. It worked decently for the trip. The only problem with today's relatively cheap cast iron is the cooktop. It's very coarse and not very well seasoned. However, it definitely got better over time after I removed the original pre-seasoning and made my own. I've also seen some videos of people sanding the surface to give it a smoother texture, which will help reduce the effort of re-seasoning. If I find myself in a situation where I need to scrape and reseason (rust, etc.) I can do that. I will say the lid/pan is VERY heavy which is great for holding the heat. It takes a while to heat up properly, but this is cast iron. The deep fryer isn't that thick, but it's definitely enough. It hasn't warped on me or anything (but then again, I never shock it after boiling it in cold water, I know better). The handles are quite short and DEFINITELY get hot after cooking with them for a while. This is a pretty good budget option for a multifunctional cast iron stove. This will take some time if you want your hob to be nice and sharp right away. Don't expect it to be like the old school Wagner/Griswold or even the newer Stargazer, Field or Finex. But they also cost MUCH more than that.

Pros
  • Very impressive
Cons
  • I don't like it that much, everything is fine
