If you buy at the same time as the table, attach it to the table in front of the desk.
I have a glass top desk that goes with it. The wood in the table is not as hard as it should be, so be careful when installing the hinged lid. The instructions are intended to be attached to the table after the table is finished. Od recommends that you attach it before you tease the desktop, otherwise it might go nuts and break if you put it on the desktop like mine did. Customer service is a guy so you have to leave some messages but they replaced broken parts for free.
