don't waste your money

This bike was given to my son for his 6th birthday. He likes it, but as a parent, I'm less impressed. Assembly: should be easy. Although the instructions are clear and easy to follow, not all parts fit together easily. I had to make a lot of effort to attach the handlebars to the front wheel. The power is enough that I was afraid to bend the rim of the front wheel. Durability: small. The handlebars are loose and the whole bike creaks with use. Where the handlebar connects to the front wheel is a knob that can be hand tightened (the same spot that was so tricky to connect during assembly). It helps a little, but even with a lot of tension there is still a little play in the handlebars. And after a few hours of use, the handle comes loose again. Durability: Pretty bad. The chain guard is attached to the frame with thin, flexible metal loops. It keeps slipping and I have to bend it back or the gear will rub on the inside. The chain guard itself is made of thin plastic that started to fall apart after just a few weeks. I would just remove what's left, but I'm concerned that the waistband or drawstring could catch on the chain and cause injury. The bike is delivered without a stand. I knew this when I ordered it but wanted to wait until I had the bike to get the stand to make sure it would fit. At this point, one of the pedals cracked and parts fell off the bike, which fell on its side. I know my son wasn't gentle with his bike, but that's to be expected from this age group. Chain guard durability is an issue with other Huffy kids bikes. My youngest son has a 12" Huffy and the chain guard on his bike is completely broken.
