This adapter converter has three problems: 1) contact between the UK plug and the base is sporadic and very poor; A slight movement of the plug can supply 240V as long as your hand inserts the plug into the device. Two of these units had this problem so I gave up and bought another brand 2) The unit has active power amplification electronics (switch mode power supply, no transformer) which is poorly filtered before shipping and produces noise that you can hear in the speakers *Audio* equipment (e.g. radio). Of course, this isn't a problem if you're powering a DVD player, portable razor, etc. It's a problem when powering an analog amp, turntable, etc. 3) It's loud. There is a fan to cool the electronics, but since the fan is small, its speed is pretty high and you can hear it. Its speed depends on the requirement/temperature of the device. With one device that I received, the fan was constantly on (annoying). With the second, the fan switched on or off correctly depending on the load, but was still annoyingly audible. Of course I sent both devices back and bought something else which at least worked every time without fiddling with the pins on the connector! save your money
