I can rub and rub and rub to remove pencil marks and they don't pull paper fibers. They make a mess, but I use a brush to loosen the particles. And they do a great job of raising the lines because you can actually get in there and pull the graphite out of the preference. Sometimes vinyl/plastic erasers don't do as well or change the surface of the paper. On the other hand, rubber stains cannot always remove marks. They wear out quickly, so it's nice to have a box handy. And I keep one of these and a Nag eraser in my drawing case because they're different. Kneading can lighten the lines and give you fine line adjustment. But these erasers remove all the graphite after you've drawn ink and allow the ink to dry completely.
