Review on Sound Storm EV4.400 Evolution Car Amplifier - πŸš— 400 Watts, 4-Channel, 2-8 Ohm Stable Class A/B, Full Range by Craig Waters

Worst amp I've ever bought!

Manual says 50W RMS x 4 @ 4 ohms. This is clearly false advertising (like any low-quality Chinese junk). There is no difference in volume level on my Clarion main unit, apart from the distortion this amp creates. Most likely it is 25Wx4 RMS. Never again will I be a cheap skateboard and buy another amp from one of those clearance companies. I just wanted a little more sound in my boat. I *probably* decided to keep this amp, but the bass was so distorted I thought my subwoofer had burned out. Glad I had a few extra speakers to test. The crossover is mostly useless. The 200Hz hi-pass REALLY thins out the average sound and forces you to use full range mode. The low frequency range is around 100Hz. The amp looks great, it's very easy to hook up and that's the only good thing I can say about it (the only quality that deserves one star). Back off Amazon I bought a MB Quart Marine NAU460 which is TRUE 60W RMS x 4 at 4 ohms. All I can say is that MB Quart SoundStorm is superior! (Yes, I know it's 2.5x more expensive, but you get over 240 watts versus 100 and 10x better sound quality.) SS has a single 15A fuse, while MBQ has a double 25A -Fuse has. Do yourself a favor and spend a few more dollars. to a real amp or you'll regret it. With over 20 years of installation experience, I should have known better. There are companies like JBL and MBQ that sell budget amps that put the SS to shame.

Pros
  • Full range, Class A/B topology
Cons
  • Almost OK
