You get what you pay for.

I read other reviews before I bought it and I use it almost daily since it arrived last month. As for the instructions on the kettle: I bought a Sam's Club kettle a few years ago that had the name of a famous TV chef on it. This teapot also had paper stuck to the spout and I only found it after using the teapot for a few weeks (phew!). I couldn't get the paper out and sent the kettle back. Between that experience and the comment in the review, I knew to look inside before using it for the first time. Of course, the instructions were in the teapot, not the box. For fading: I leave it on the burner 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, unless I need that burner for other dishes. Yes, of course food/fat splatters fall on it. I wiped it with a disinfectant wipe (own brand) and indeed I now have a spot where the color has faded. Should have saved $8 and bought the stainless steel version instead of the nice colored ones. As for the whistle: my last kettle didn't whistle. I learned to tell when water was boiling by the other sounds it made and the steam that came out. This one seemed to boil water MUCH faster than this one. This one makes the same noises a minute or two before the kettle actually whistles. The noise is loud enough to be heard from the next room and not so loud that it bothers me when I'm still in the kitchen. I have no problem with the pen being too hot. For the purchase price, it's not bad at all.

Pros
  • good thing
Cons
  • too stupid
