To my surprise, the little metal rods on the side really help when trying to rip a sheet off a paper towel roll. Instead of unwinding the entire roll when I tear the sheet, I can rip it against the sidebars and get exactly what I want - without unwinding. But I deducted a star because the base, while strong, is a little light. So when I'm in a hurry to get the sheet, it can be a little destabilizing. It's not that bad, but it works best if I put a hand on top of the B-pillar and then rip the sheet metal off the side molding. It's a minor thing, but I mentioned it because it affected my overall score. Although I like the holder and it is comfortable.
