That's a quick word on this radar detector and why I think it's one of the best you can get. I have 2 main cars that I drive - one is fitted with Escort Redline and the other is fitted with this Escort Max 360. My car with Escort Redline used to have a Valentine 1 but I liked the Redline better so I upgraded it. The Escort Redline is a great radar detector and I have compared all other radar detectors to it. So if you can't tell, I really like the Escort Redline, but the Max 360 has since dethroned it as my favorite radar detector of all time. 1) Direction notification - Max 360 tells me where the radar signal is coming from. If I' I'm driving onto a freeway and approaching an exit and the Max 360 tells me the radar signal is coming from the right and I know to slow down immediately. When I'm on a track and the radar signal is coming from behind, I know that I have more time to brake when the next car is far behind or I've just climbed a crest. The course alert is extremely useful for knowing how to slow down quickly or if you are slowing down at all - you don't realize how useful it is until you use it. Direction detection is absent on Redline and much less accurate on Valentine 1.2) GPS Storage - Max 360 knows when the radar is triggered at the same spot each day and can positively identify the businesses and gas stations that have it on. As I drove past Publix for the fourth time, which always turned off its radar detectors because of its motion-sensing doors, there was a thin beep with the word "Kept" on the screen. The radar was never turned off before this Publix. A few weeks later, a police officer set up a radar in front of the same Publix. The Max 360 exploded and I thought it was going to pick up the store again until I got closer and saw a police car. So he's smart enough to know the location but not miss a new radar signature in a previously saved area - no idea how he does it. 3) Antennas - The Max 360 has MUCH better rear and side detection than the Redline. Not even a competition. Redline may have slightly longer front detection (I think 10-15%), but the Max 360 washes the floor with Redline from the back and side - I'd say the detection range is doubled, if not more. The Max 360's detection range from all angles gives you more than enough time to stop - with Redline only when detected from the front. 4) Display Information - The Max 360 has a much nicer display than the Redline, with animated pulsing markers, and is much better aligned with most automotive displays. Max 360 also displays your current speed, which it calculates using GPS. It matches my speedo perfectly and has never lost a GPS signal. Because the Max 360 has a true LCD panel, the settings are easier to navigate and adjust. The red line shows no useful information, except which radar strip is detected. 5) Sound - Max. 360 warning sounds go beyond the red line. Voice is clearer, alarms are less harsh, and the auto mute/volume down works MUCH better. 6) Overall Aesthetics – The Max 360 just looks better than the Redline in my opinion. It's a little bigger, but the finish feels better, the upgraded LCD looks MUCH better, and the design just blends better with most car interiors. he learns not to repeat them over time. As in the Publix example above, my Redline still runs before Publix, but Max 360 doesn't. I can't tell you how many times the Redline was propelled by radar cruise controls on the interstate while the Max 360 wasn't hovering over them. Redline probably throws 75% more false positives than Max 360 and that's probably a conservative number. I have considered the Escort Redline one of the best radar detectors out there for many years and it still is, just not as good as the Max 360. After extensive use of both (about 100,000 miles with Redline and about 80,000 with Max 360) I am confident in my comparison between the two, however note that I have not conducted any scientific research on either. I've only used them as a heavy driver. The only area where the Redline slightly outperforms the Max 360 is in front coverage, but in every other category the Max 360 is the best product that Escort currently offers. I just ordered a second Max 360 for my car from Redline. and I look forward to his arrival.
