Review on πŸ–₯️ Metal Case with Fan for Raspberry Pi 4 - Silver, VGE Wall Mount by Alvaro Delic

Factory assembly issues

First you get exactly what the picture shows. It's an all-aluminum body with a black bottom and green top. The green cover should slide top to bottom - there are small square ribs(?) on the front that should line up. It turned out to be a bit more complicated than I would have liked, but it worked. I had some issues with the screws that came with the case. There was a strange silver screw with different threads and I didn't see any use for it. The wall brackets are separate and attached with (hopefully) four screws. The brackets have hidden holes which is good. There was no left or right mount, so I didn't have to worry about which one to mount. There are nuts (or so it looks like) that go into the holes in the bottom of the case to insert the bolts. Two of the three screws I left threaded well, but the last screw didn't want to go in any of the holes. If I didn't use a wall mount it wouldn't matter much but that was the main reason I bought this particular case. The case comes with one fan - mine actually had two fans, and also note that one fan was mistakenly factory installed with the wrong pin configuration. The fan is held on with long screws and small nuts. I swapped the built-in fan for the replacement fan that came with it. This fan has a two-pin connector side by side, so you should use it in the HIGH SPEED setting for the Raspberry Pi (as opposed to a split header with one connector each). Fan replacement is NOISY. It's very noisy, and I don't think it's just because it runs on 5V. I clearly hear the wine coming from that fan in the next room.

Pros
  • Metal case conducts heat and helps dissipate heat from the Raspberry Pi
Cons
  • No power
