My college roommate, who is largely responsible for both my love of cooking and my skill at it, was a cooking student who later (many years later) became the owner of a Michelin Star Awarded Restaurants. . I also worked as a cutlery for several years. Therefore, I am very familiar with knives, their manufacture and use. With that in mind, I have to say that this is a very good set. It's not as ergonomic and balanced as the Shun, which appears to be a fake, but the materials are about the same. It's nicely packaged, sharp enough, and comes with pretty much everything you need except a block to hold them and good steel to keep them going. These are by no means the nicest knives I've owned (or made), but for the price these knives would make a fantastic starter kit or housewarming gift. I like her!
