Review on Stay Entertained: Poly-Planar MRD87I Waterproof Stereo System for Ultimate Water Adventures by Jared Winebrenner

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Excellent value for money and quality! Very good performance and good workmanship.

So far happy with this head unit. I'm currently testing the sound quality with a pair of cheap full size 8 ohm KLH 3-way home speakers. I cannot recognize the sound from my Pioneer receiver. There are 2 different levels of sound adjustment. 1 for bass and treble and another 5 band EQ. Real bass. Compared to Pyle's latest $50 Marine main unit. Pyle has slightly better dynamic sound with X-Bass enabled. Then it doesn't overheat but turns off, which Planar didn't do even in 2 weeks burn test. For $120, the difference in quality is significant. The device is powered by an 8 amp 12 volt power supply. That is 6 amperes less than the maximum current consumption. No problem, I won't break the neighbors' windows. The device almost does not heat up. It's not pretty or flashy. Very simple look. It feels like it's solidly built. Lots of padding to protect against water and moisture. No holes in the back of the case. Particular attention is paid to the connection to XM and iPhone. Bluetooth connection works well. I had no trouble connecting to my Moto Stylus. Excellent wiring and choice of connection types, all with their own seals. I bought this for a boombox project and it was going to get a bit wet. No, I'm not going to intentionally hose him down with water. But it should be able to handle a little wet without spoiling. I believe it will. It is built by HD. The front also folds down to store the phone in a secure compartment with audio jacks. So far I'm very happy with it.

Pros
  • Adjustable display backlight
Cons
  • A little shabby
