Review on Canson Montval Acrylic Pad: Heavyweight No-Buckle Paper for Artists, 12x16 Inch, 10 Sheets by Dawn Fischer

Handles heavy application of acrylic and watercolor paints.

Hello artists. I was looking for a paper that could do with some acrylic use for my Dracula project. I tried the Fabriano Artisto heat press but after a few coats it started curling. (You could probably do an acrylic watercolor job on a Fabriano with no problem. Can't say anything bad about the Fabriano as I didn't use it for its intended purpose.). I've only found two acid free acrylic papers - this one and one from Strathmore. This is a beautiful thick paper bound into a notebook. The first page was torn on three edges, but I was able to secure it with staples. The rest of the pages are protected. I splashed the first coat with water quite heavily and got a little pilling but not after that. The paper survived several layers of medium-thick paint without any problems. I think that heavier layers will also be required. Suitable for glazes and acrylics, although the cold-pressed surface is a bit rough for pencil colours. I used liquid gold paint and Liquitex acrylic paint. The packaging says they are acid-free, but says nothing about what the paper itself is made of. Nothing on the website either. Secret. The surface of the paper is a beautiful white color and looks like a cold watercolor print. The inside of the cover contains a nice table of their various papers. Canson says he works best on charcoal, pastels, watercolors and acrylics. I've only tried acrylic. 185 pounds, such a nice fat one. My only problem was when I removed the artist tape the paper tore. This has happened to other papers with this tape, so I don't think it's Canson paper. I think artist's mark tape would be fine. (Expensive!). I also bought a Strathmore 400 acrylic paper notebook to try. It has a linen texture, which I don't really like, but it's very thick (285 pounds or so). I'll post a review there after testing it if you're interested. The packaging was fine. Arrived shrink wrapped and in a cardboard box. No damage, delivery in one day.
