Promising concept: Looking for spikes

***No Paid Review***Notice. keep the device. I was going to pick it up while it was on display at Lowes this season, but my project wasn't quite ready for production at the time. Now they are only available on AMZ and direct I think. I have several "regular" spike finders and none of them gave me useful feedback on my walls (1980's Florida prefab, probably metal spikes, damn horrible popcorn on EVERYTHING). I have a habit of thinking about solutions before they come and I was happy to encounter this particular concept in real life for the first time. The idea is solid (well, simple actually) and makes sense of how it should work with minimal precision issues. I particularly like the idea of app support because it makes new features software-based rather than hardware-based. TBH I would have preferred it to be a BT based device but considering they included an OTG cable in the box I'm happy with that. Others have covered the functions and methods quite well, but I've decided to stick with my situation as it's not officially supported. So if anyone has the same as me, or similar enough, here's what I came up with. First, while it's on sale, buy direct from MFG! I could save about $15 by going to their website first. If so, then the accessory kit I purchased would offset the savings. I bought a Plus Edition combo kit here that came with a semi-rigid case and some extra consumables. I then went to the MFG website (watch out for in-app ads!) and grabbed a full set of accessories and a set of plastic mounts. I almost bought the hard case that is here, but now I'm glad I didn't as the storage configuration wouldn't be as good as this kit (things would be everywhere or there wouldn't be enough space). ). I can easily fit most accessories into the case, but I chose to leave the half-dozen drives in the unit's original packaging (along with any extra cables and manual). I am currently using it with LG. G7 ThinQ phone not officially supported by the plastic bracket. Popcorn walls are also not officially supported due to the device bouncing around and causing inaccuracies. But being myself, I "found a way" that doesn't look too MacGyvery and doesn't look ugly. The kit comes with these big plastic covers that are supposed to protect the walls from scratches (I think). According to the instructions, they should not be used with the Plus device as it differs slightly from the base model. I placed one of these on the side facing the wall, and while it certainly doesn't want to stay in place for long periods of time (it gets air under the sticky side), it should also help keep the unit itself clean to allow for a smoother glide (rather than jumping another inch). The kits also contain discs with adhesive on both sides (to attach the phone to the device). I don't plan on rinsing them or anything so I bought a few as I bet they get dirty pretty quickly if there's enough dust around. They work well for keeping the phone connected to the device, but I still found everything quite difficult to line up. This prompted me to purchase plastic handles as they should form a rigid structure together with the discs. To keep track of which one I was using, I decided to leave it attached to the device and re-stick one of the plastic sheets to the side of the phone. Note. Due to the way they are made, they will most likely leave a bold outline of what they are attached to when removed. I thought about it and decided to leave my (very thin) rubber case on the phone (even before I go for plastic mounts) as I don't care if it has marks and it's easier to clean than a phone. This later became the best option when I wanted to test the plastic mounts. The plastic holders come in two sizes and my phone (without the case) fits like a monkey in the middle. That's probably why they said it was physically incompatible. However, with the case, the largest adapter is actually too small. It can use a different diameter, e.g. B. 3mm on the side of the phone to ensure a fit that I don't have to check for tears. Whatever the case, once you snap everything in place, everything will be fine and tidy. See photos for links to what is described above. UTF8&psc=1
