Revainrating 4 out of 5

Useful - Best on Dogs

The description of this unit is mostly accurate so you get what you are told so if you get it and find it doesn't work, can't complain. not do what you expect so read the description carefully. It's a Bluetooth device, not GPS, so it doesn't tell you the coordinates of where your cat is, and the range is pretty short. It says "range 328 feet," which may be true, but so far my cat is up to 300 feet out of range. Basically, your phone will show how far your cat is from the phone, up to about 300 feet. After that it says "Out of range" and you can even make a sound to warn you when your cat is out of range. At this point, you can call your cat and bribe her with a treat to get her back sooner. they go too far. However, you won't know which way the cat climbed those 300 feet. The Bluetooth signal is transmitted once per second, which is common, but there seems to be a delay as it is an intermittent signal. So when the phone says your cat is 300 feet and running towards you, the display can suddenly jump up to 50 feet and be surprised your cat will come out on the porch when you thought it was next door or in the forest. This device is by no means perfect hence the 3 star rating. But it's useful to a certain extent. It's fairly accurate, enough to give me a good idea of whether my cat has left the yard or is approaching me. When I move towards/away from it it doesn't read the distance change, and also when my cat moves towards/away from me. It doesn't really make sense, but it seems to work that way. If it moves, the change in distance will be read on my phone. So as she approaches me the distance gets shorter and as she moves away the phone reads more distance or goes out of range. When I look for her I look blindly because I don't know which direction she is going and when I go in any direction it seems pointless and even more confusing to change the distance. So it's not really a device for locating your cat, but a device for knowing if your cat is around, which is useful enough for keeping an eye on them and making sure they're there before dark invades, but probably not enough to find her when she's been missing for days. Other things to note: Buildings/trees etc are said to affect accuracy, but I live in a wooded area and this doesn't seem to be an issue. The device still reads where my cat is even with trees and my house in the way. There is a flashing green light to help you find your cat in the dark, but I've never seen a light from far out. I only notice it when it's blinking around the house. All in all, this is a useful device for knowing if your cat is close or off-perimeter, and for that purpose I'd say the cost is a bit steep. $35-40 would probably be the best price for this service as I can't find my cat with the device or do anything else. If it could find my cat then the $65 I paid would be a great price compared to GPS units that cost between $100 and $200.
