"Back In, Back Out " Finnigan Cat Problem Solved

If you have a cat or dog, you might know this repetitive "I want out" / "I want in" is a popular problem. We have a solid three-hinged iron and glass door that opens onto our glass-enclosed porch. Our cat likes to be there until he decides that he wants back in and then out again. To accommodate his comings and goings we left the door closed but not locked. This works as he can come and go as he pleases BUT as the door does not have an automatic closer had the door mostly wide open; exhaust of conditioned air and hot humid air during the summer months or freezing cold air and exhaust of heated air during the winter months. I needed something that would allow our cat to open the door seldom bst to open, but also to close it just enough behind you that the outside temperature does not penetrate and the inside temperature does not escape. I bought a set of 2 Berlin Modisch 4" x 4" mortise spring hinges hoping they would do just that. I'm happy to report that they work great for my purpose. And I only had to install one. These hinge screw holes line up exactly with the old hinge plates, so no drilling or caulking is required. Once installed, all that remained was to adjust the tension springs so that the door closed but did not latch. These Berliner Modisch 4" x 4" Push-In Spring Hinges are excellent quality and I highly recommend them.
