I'm new to canning so can't compare these to other tins - other than a few I've looked at in the supermarket. Spend an extra $35 on this cannery. High quality stainless steel (not cheap aluminium). You use the indicator knob on the lid to determine when to start timing and when to adjust the heat to keep the water at the right temperature (without having to know the exact temperature). It is very important to read the instructions! They are well written and explain when to put the jars in, when to start the indicator-based timer, when to adjust the temperature, and when to remove the jars. (Turn off heat, remove lid and wait 5 minutes.) I have now made 4 batches of jam/jelly and no longer need canning instructions. So it doesn't really matter. I recommend two companion products: the Norpro Canning Essentials box set, the 6-piece set https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000DDVMH, and the Ball FreshTech Jam and Jelly Maker (cheaper to buy directly from Ball). ). This is a tin can that will last for years.
