This is the second unit I have purchased from this manufacturer. Last great product and I got the same from it. Then came the hammer, when I opened the device, was it on its feet, wasn't it? I read that with other units it was in meters and needed to be changed. I was excited to try it first without reading the book roughly. Well, it went wrong, but I quickly checked. Yes, the electronic level is good, and addition and subtraction in all modes of lines and areas is also fu-fu. The size is more than acceptable, of course, but my old eyes need to be put into reading mode. Loved the fact that it could be specified in inches, fractions, and various formats, none of which I could think of, and didn't miss which one I would use. I even shot it from afar, 60 feet from the door, where my shaky hand couldn't have done it, but the stable surface did the job. Oh, maybe that's why it has a 1/4 inch hole for that stand, as you might think? But then the ice cube got into the heater and the heart started to melt. I was going to use it to cut wood, but that's not going to happen with this block, and then the light came on. Will they ship a used, broken block? Spent about an hour testing then calibrating and turning in all directions to no avail, best being +/- 1/8th and worst being 3/16th of an inch or so. Hey, my dull pencil and my fading eyes, I don't need help, but when it comes to sawing wood, it's no good. However when I measured the area it was fine, adding or subtracting the area of the plate was no problem. Yes, I flipped it and hoped to get another one with the same 1/16th precision. Now I know why my old work partner used a broad marker and I've complained. Now I'm a little wiser and wear glasses like him. Let's see how the next block works, if it doesn't work I'll try someone else maybe B***** or D***** but I like this one! Let's put it this way, unfortunately it's great for expert opinions, but not for a tinkerer or even a rough carpenter. My readings ranged from 1/16" to 1/4" which is totally unacceptable for working at 1/16" or closer. It was very frustrating to return the second unit and the cost considering the time and money is delayed and even questions the accuracy of my line laser from the same company if it ever fails.
