Fiction! Really works! Do as described in my comment.

I'm 70 years old and I've been looking for old-fashioned flasks. For some reason I just didn't think this new guy would work despite the many great reviews. Although I feel like an idiot for using it now and it works so great, it's obvious to me from the design that it's going to have more power than the old guy. I use mine for the sink, although I think it will work for my toilet [which doesn't have that big slanted opening]. Anyway, THIS IS AMAZING! Easy to use even with my weak, arthritic hands. Simply suck the blockage completely and/or move it. I 100% recommend this type of piston. I've followed the ideas of some of the comments which I can't fully recall - running hot water 10 minutes before use and I think also after pouring some plain vinegar down the drain many minutes before use - I'm perfectly obvious that I wouldn't use any chemicals before diving, but I figured vinegar diluted with hot water would be ok if there were splashes, and I didn't poke my nose directly over the sink when I dived either. [I think I did it 2 times.] So no matter what age you are, do it. Except for use in large toilet openings, I practically guarantee it will work on 'normal clogs', i.e. maybe not a large object that's stuck, but I don't know if a simple plunger will do.

Pros
  • Working hands-free
Cons
  • Some difficulties
