Nice lock if/when you get it right.

I installed a lock on an old door and ended up re-drilling all the holes in the door and frame to fit this lock. for the lock to work properly. The bolt must sit perfectly, as even slight friction will render the lock unusable. Yael/August includes a small magnet, but this magnet is missing from the kit, instructions and parts list. . This appears to be part of an August "door sensor" kit that allows the lock to detect when a door is left ajar or partially open. Again, there are no instructions on how and where to install it. The August site shows how to install this sensor for August locks and each lock has a specific location to install this magnet but not Yale locks. None of Yale's online videos say anything about this magnet. It's almost a dirty little secret they don't want you to know before you buy a lock. I had to contact Yale tech support to tell me how to install it. Obviously, installation instructions are included with the app, but why would anyone launch the app before completing the installation? Installing the "Connect" kit required several attempts, mainly due to the very poor Bluetooth range between the Connect device and the locked device. I had to move it around the house to find the least problematic spot. The only place it works well is literally on the other side of the wall (2ft from the lock) and even then the app reports the Bluetooth connection is poor. After a whole day of drilling and fiddling with the lock, it works fine. If you like the lock, you'd better be very handy and with a full set of tools, or have it installed by a professional. 4 stars * * * * for the lock itself 1 star * for the instructions and documentation 4 stars * * * * for the app (Android) 5 stars * * * * * for Yale support.
