Review on Ableconn PIUSBSDXC Raspberry Pi USB 2.0 to SD 3.0 (SDXC) Converter Stackable Board by Jason Wright

This is a great little device that helps overcome one of the Raspberry Pi's drawbacks. My application requires video surveillance events to be written to disk, which is not ideal for an SD card. After connecting a 512GB Samsung SSD, I connected the device to my Pi 3 and nothing happened. lsusb did not find any new devices. Since this thing is supposed to be plug and play, I did the only thing I could think of. I swapped the USB cable for another one and it worked. It's clear. Not all USB cables are created equal. Being a skateboarder, I have to admit that my first purchase was some of the super cheap mSATA to USB adapters you can find on E-Bay. However, I got what I paid for and I only discovered the Ableconn PIUSB2MSA after looking for something better than what I had. Ableconn's PIUSB2MSA isn't exactly cheap, but it ships from the US so shipping times are reasonable. The fact that it works and works well is enough to recommend this item to others. My biggest criticism is that this board covers the 40 pin GPIO connector. Racks try to compensate for this, but then the build becomes too large to fit in many Raspberry Pi cases. This problem is by no means an obstacle to the show, but I expect it to be overcome by a device that costs significantly more and claims to be built specifically for the Raspberry Pi.
