Poor customer service

The quality of the product depends on the level of customer service. I have never experienced anything like this in my life: I have had a modem for 5 months. I've been having problems connecting to the internet for a few months. It takes time to diagnose and lots and lots of calls to my ISP and two tech visits to my home. They eventually concluded that my Netgear modem was defective. This is confirmed when I borrow a modem from my ISP and now, miraculously, my service is working perfectly. So I contacted Netgear and they told me that even though the modem has a one-year hardware warranty, they only offer free customer support for the first 90 days. They say they can diagnose the modem (but with one caveat): if it's bad, they'll send me a replacement for free; If they work with it and actually get it working, I'm responsible for updating my customer support, which costs $89.99. Who goes on this adventure? An agent told me I can diagnose the modem for free by going to the Netgear website. He said he would email me to tell me where to go. The email never arrived. I called back and the agent said there was no record of the agent emailing. This time I found out I could get them to diagnose the modem for $49.99. I told them I wouldn't do it. I asked to be put through to a supervisor (which I did on a previous call and no one was available) and I said that if I could not speak to the supervisor I would include that fact in my consumer complaint to my state's Attorney General would . . After 5 minutes the agent came back and said he would send me a new pad. If you like this service, buy this modem.
