I have been trimming nails with a Dremel on dogs of all breeds from Greyhounds to Whippets, English Wolfhounds and Old English Sheepdogs for almost 16 years. I've used a variety of drums, from fine to regular grit, and have found them to cut faster, last longer, and stay cooler than any other drum or stone I've tried. I trimmed 3 100# dogs with overgrown nails and the drum didn't even show any signs of wear or loss of sharpness. I used about 7500-10,000 rpm, I wouldn't go too fast (over 10,000 rpm), don't try 20,000-30,000 rpm. It's too fast to use on pets.
