Review on Enhance Connectivity with Belkin F5D8055 Wireless N+300Mbps USB Adapter (Black) by Jason Ampongan

Revainrating 5 out of 5

No Linux support, suitable for XP

This adapter is probably intended for those who are just looking for a cheap adapter that will allow them to quickly connect to the Internet (with a Windows computer). Pros: *Easy setup XP* Price* USB charging dock/cable Cons:* Doesn't work with Linux* I can only get 150Mbps (should be up to 300Mbps) I'm a bit of a power user (also known as a computer engineer ) who builds computers and satellites and does stupid things like dual boot and run Linux.) Aka, I'm pickier. As mentioned above, this will probably suit most users' needs. I was trying to install this on my Ubuntu 10.04 laptop. In general, I've found that almost all hardware "just works" with Ubuntu, often better than Windows. Not in this case. I spent the day browsing the forums and trying out various fixes. I'm also very familiar with the command line. So if I couldn't get it to work, it's probably not worth your time. I find it hard to believe that manufacturers still don't offer software support or at least make development available to the community to help them out. I don't quite understand why, but installing it on my Windows XP desktop, my connection speed never exceeds 150 Mbps. This is paired with D-Link DIR-655. Both must support 300 Mbps. They have a perfect connection across space. I've tried manually optimizing channels and a few other things, but it doesn't seem to work any faster. Unfortunately I don't have any other N devices yet to test the router to see if it's the problem. Overall you know what you are getting with this product. You get a two-year-old device that's perfect for the average user. If you're a demanding user, maybe look elsewhere.
