Very simple yet very functional

Slendor Magnetic Stirrer Lab Mixer My husband has been dreaming of this for years so I bought it for him and he was so excited when we played with it. If you're familiar with magnetic stirrers, imagine the simplest on the market that meets all the advertised specifications, and that's exactly what you get with this device. It does have a good stirring grip, though, and works with even the thickest vessel we could find, which is a diner-style coffee mug. There is no speed display and the stirring speed is adjusted by a simple potentiometer knob that also acts as a switch. It is powered by a 12V 1A power adapter, the same type used for many small electronic devices and since it has the double insulated symbol you don't have to worry about getting electrocuted if that device gets wet. We were curious to see what's inside, and removing the bottom cover was as easy as removing three Phillips screws. As seen in the photo the motor is a small brush type DC motor driven from a PCB which is actually turned on and off by a speed control potentiometer which in turn controls a constant line voltage (LM317). on the other side of the board. From a non-technical point of view, this is a straight-forward system in every sense of the word. The general consensus seems to be that it was designed to be as cheap as possible while still being functional. This unit is ideal when cost is an issue, whether in a high school chemistry lab or when mixing harsh, volatile chemicals that can eventually damage even an expensive stirrer. Honestly it's good value for money. Highly recommended.

Pros
  • 🔬 Widely used - simple operation, easy to clean, very suitable for scientific research institutes, industry, agriculture, home brewing, laboratories and university laboratories. Mainly used for mixing low viscosity liquids or mixing solid and liquid phases.
Cons
