The perfect flashlight for those who hate headtorches

The reason we don't use headtorches in the military is for 'versatility'. The 90 degree flashlight is much more versatile and with the advent of high power LEDs and lithium cells, this type of flashlight has become even more useful and durable. Ok, enough story. The basics: Streamlight actually bent the head of its ProTac 1L. That's all. Intermediate: OK, it's more like "1L-X" when you speak "Streamlight". That means you get ten-touch programming and a dual-fuel design. The latter means you can use CR123a or AA batteries, lithium or alkaline. However, if you use anything other than CR123a you will get a reduction in brightness. You get one of each per pack, both are lithium. What is ten touches? For the uninitiated, the streamlights are set to high, strobe. With 10 quick button presses you can change this to high only and low-high. That's all. Read the instructions if that doesn't make sense to you. Big Little Pros: The bezel is removable to make replacing the LEDs easier if you kill one. They can also swap it out for a serrated bezel or colored lenses if they decide to make them for this model (more on that in a moment). The clip is now reinforced to prevent accidental detachment and is bi-directional. Ideal for attaching to a backpack strap for front use, to a pocket for front use, or to a hat visor for down use. The button is also on the head rather than the tail, allowing the lenses to be used while standing. Colored Lenses: These are not included or included directly with Streamlight. However, this is a standard 25.4 mm (1 inch) head. Nitecore offers red (NFR25), green (NFG25), and blue (NFB25) filters that slide on, lock the finned heatsink onto the bezel, and lock securely. I use these myself. What could be improved: Offer a head that rotates to make a standard aiming lamp. Create a two-element version based on the ProTac 2L-X case for longer run time. Assemble a range of frames and lenses to choose from. Finally, make sure the battery cover is the same diameter as the bezel so you can safely store the lens on the bottom. I hate headlamps because I usually wear a hat and goggles when hiking and photographing landscapes. If you wear them, you know my pain. Streamlight has yet to produce a heavy-duty, heavy-duty rectangular lantern. If your backpack only has room for one light source, it should be this one as it will be the least affected. Just take some extra cells with you.
