i took two of these to replace in my *old* water heater. The upper one was leaking in the gasket area and the lower one was burned out. These two tightened, sealed perfectly, and went to work as soon as I turned on the heat. I even turned the thermostat down about 15 degrees on each element and they still seem to heat the water to a higher temperature than the old ones. It's been almost a month and I think at this point it's safe to say they will keep going until the 15 year old heater rots or fills up with scale.
