My son is 11 and wears a 14/16. I ordered size XL for him in this jacket and size XL is only a 12. Other than that it still fits my son perfectly. I wasn't too tight and still looked great. It just doesn't fit next year and that's the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars. It could also be my fault for looking at the size chart. The jacket was softer than expected. I would compare it to fleece material like Old Navy. It was light but warm. The jacket actually has a shape too, which I really appreciated, so it doesn't look like a typical loose-fitting boy's jacket. If your son is 11 years old and a bit heavier, I would go for the XXL. My son is thin and fat but if he is taller then I will definitely have to order XXL. He might be wearing a long/short sleeve shirt, but with a heavy sweater underneath I don't think that's going to happen.
