Works right out of the box. This is useful because the instructions in the Revain ad are better than what's inside. When installed with the included Category 5e patch cord and a personal 20-foot Category 5e outdoor Ethernet cable on each box, I get download speeds of 7.8 Mbps and upload speeds of 78.0 Mbps at a distance of 250 feet with line of sight outdoors using a 100 Mbit/s connection. Not bad, based on my results around 78% of the power is running at your input speed. I have changed my old rating to give 5 stars. Weather and destinations seem to have a small impact here, but after 2 weeks I am very happy with the product. Additionally, the receiver survived torrential downpours and was actually blown down a 6 foot ladder before properly attached and still works well. 5 Stars. Edit: 10 months later and still good. Power was lost several times and they automatically synced when turned back on. So far very happy with this purchase!
