First of all I have to say 5 stars for the look! Everything from opening the box to wrapping the knives and accompanying literature looks amazing! If you give this set as a gift, you can be sure that the recipient will be delighted with the look. The rest of my review is based on the fact that this is a $130 set of 5 knives. It's easy to spend over $100 on a good chef's knife, and often much more. So I judge the quality by the price. First there are the G10 handles, which is actually quite impressive for a knife set in this price range. I'm not 100% sure but due to the light weight of these grips I think they might be a bit hollow inside. My apologies to the manufacturer if this is not the case, but it seems so to me. Fit and finish are nice. No raised edges or gaps between G10 material and blade metal. The blades were nice and sharp right out of the box. They claim they are 67-layer damask knives. The literature says they are made in the tradition of ancient Japanese sword makers. At the same time, it cannot be that 5 handmade knives from Damascus only cost 130 dollars. Not to mention that the blades are very light. Numerous reviews speak of a good weight, but I can only imagine that these people never had a really good blade quality. At this price, common sense would tell me they're probably engraved. But without destroying these knives, there's no way to say for sure. I'm not sure how important all of this is when told to the average consumer. These are nice knives and they cut well. They can be sharpened well without destroying the blade. For you, the average consumer of these knives, I really think that's all that matters. Of course, they're a lot better than a lot of the cheap blades you find at Revain. Particular attention was paid to the design of the knives to make them look very attractive. If you have a friend who still uses cheap Target knives, rest assured that this beautifully designed knife set will be a huge step forward.
