Well I wasn't sure why I needed three but after turning the first one upside down and pulling it out I realized they were disposable. They self-destruct, so to speak. You have one chance to install them, so aim them so you can tell top from bottom. When they are removed, a metal holder should fall into the dashboard. And I assume you need to replace the dashes and remove all three, you need to replace all three hence the three packs. But as for me, I have one student, I got it right the second time, and now I have one left. ;-)
