Review on πŸ” Purolator L14610 Premium Spin-On Oil Filter for Optimal Engine Protection by Corey Randolph

Great Filter for Daily Driver

I spent a lot of time researching and trying different oil filters to find which one would work best for my application and settled on the Purolator One. As for me, I have two direct-injected turbocharged Hondas and regularly change the oil and filter every 4000-6000 miles or so with a branded fully synthetic oil (usually Pennzoil Platinum or Castrol Edge OW-20). I have also tried K&N HP-1010, K&N PS-1010, Bosch Premium 3233 and Purolator Boss. I have ordered the Purolator One from Revain about 8 times so far and it has always arrived undamaged in the original packaging. Sometimes Revain has a $2.00 coupon off the list price, so check this list regularly and "stock up" when it's cheap. The Purolator One filters with 99% efficiency at 20 microns and is marketed as being able to withstand a 16,000 mile drain interval. Since I change the filter regularly with every oil change, I chose the Purolator One because I don't need the 24,000 km oil change intervals of the Purolator Boss. I've never had trouble removing this filter, even after a long winter. I won't say this filter is better than the K&N HP-1010 or K&N PS-1010, but I like the overall design of the Purolator filters. Both K&Ns are heavier-walled (similar to the Purolator Boss) than the Purolator One, which withstands higher burst pressures and is more resistant to road debris. This is not a problem for my application as my oil filter is unaffected and protected by a drip tray. The Bosch 3233 costs less than the Purolator One (about $6 at Revain at the time of publication). If you compare the Bosch 3233 with the Purolator One, the filters appear to be almost identical. This is likely because Bosch and Purolator were at some point owned by the same parent company and likely shared design components. This filter is much better in design than Fram Extra Guard or Fram Tough Guard. Overall, for the price, the Purolator One seems like the best option for my application. If you change your oil regularly and less than 10,000 miles, this is a great filter. If you're going past the 10,000 mile change interval, consider looking at Purolator Boss or Wix XP.
