I have had several Royal & Langnickel brushes in my collection for many years, but although I liked them I have to admit that none of them became my favourite. When I saw this new line - the Royal & Langnickel Moderna line - I thought I'd grab a few. I went through all the options and decided I could use a 1 inch wash so I went with the Wash Variety set. Well, first of all, I only used them for watercolors. The 1 inch wash brush is great. I have several washing brushes, but none of them suit me perfectly. I have a Princeton Neptune but I find their synthetic protein too bland for my taste and I didn't like the others. I am happy to report that this Royal & Langnickel Moderna 1 inch fill appeals to me very much and I have enjoyed painting skies, backgrounds and other medium to large fills with it. It's the softest of the set, but it's an instant brush, and this one does a great job. It wets the paper well, the paint lays like a dream, and the only real problem is that, like any 1-inch brush, it doesn't quite fit half the paint pot. Although it's stiffer than some brushes it hasn't damaged any of the paper surfaces I've used it on I've had and so far so well I'm not sure what to do with the corrector but I'm playing with fine detail. In general, if you prefer your brushes to be bouncy, I would recommend them. I think they are good for beginners because of their stiffness which makes it easier to control brushes and colors, no The brushes also didn't damage the surface of my 100% cotton or non-cotton watercolor paper. The price of this set is right and I am having a lot of fun with it and find the 1 inch wash very useful.
