SECURITY THREAT! Melted and shorted out on fourth use. The GFCI exit most likely prevented the barn fire.

I bought Zerostart 3400017 in January 2020. I use it for my tractor's hydrostatic transmission when winter temperatures are expected to be below 20 degrees Fahrenheit. I used it twice until summer 2020 and it worked well, and the third time in December 2020 it worked well. In the second week of February 2021, when low temperatures were forecast again, I used it for the fourth time and connected it around midnight. did not survive the night. Some time after turning it on, it overheated and melted the wires and insulation. I believe if the GFCI socket hadn't cut the power my barn might have caught fire. Even with the GFCI outlet off there must have been a lot of smoke because a week later the barn still smells as bad as it did the morning after the first short circuit. STRONGLY RECOMMEND NOT TO PURCHASE THIS PRODUCT! It doesn't bother me that it broke just after the warranty expired. What worries me most is that such a device, which should be left unattended, does not have the necessary protection circuitry to safely fail. It should not be offered for sale unless it can safely fail or prevent a short circuit and create a fire hazard. This is totally unacceptable and I feel like I just dodged a bullet.
