Overall the Vortex II appears to be a decent fan

Overall the Vortex II appears to be a decent fan. It's easy to install and moves air well. Being too loud I didn't have a fan in the existing vent, but luckily there was a 12v wire behind the skirt of the original vent for that purpose! Connections on the board where the rotary switch is mounted. These were low to medium speed connections. None of the lower speeds worked until I resoldered the connections. Very simple solution but shows somewhat poor quality in this area. The second problem was that the screen was too close to the fan blade and scratched it quite a bit when the fan was running, especially in exhaust mode. At first I thought the fan should sit a little lower on the motor shaft, but after some fiddling there it seemed it as if it were as far up the shaft as possible. If the shaft was about 1/8 inch shorter I think it would be fine. I was able to remove the fan and motor and after several attempts to raise the motor a bit I decided to make some 4" diameter rings of gasket material to place between the fan motor and the plastic housing. This raised it just enough to clear the screen. Be careful not to lift the motor too high or it will hit the cover cross member above. Aside from these two issues, I like it and may buy another one for my other vent. How for the open circuit board at the top.side of the fan, there shouldn't be a problem if some water (e.g. rain) gets in there. There are no circuits to affect and there's really just a rotary switch and 3 power resistors on the bottom.i suspect the rotary switch could corrode if it gets wet a lot, but since it's on the underside that's probably unlikely, it's just one opinion.

Pros
  • 9 inch fan blade
Cons
  • Hard to tell
